To better understand what the church is, we can better understand the words used for the church in the Bible. One of them is Ekklesia. It is an assembly of those “called out”.
To embrace Christianity is to enter into a community. The Gospel is not simply a personal matter but a corporate one. We are not intended to move or exist alone, but in a relationship with other believers. The ekklesia is Jesus’ first choice and one given without options for another way.
It is a gathering for the purpose of being a movement, a culture, and a flock.
