The possible awaits

Within the kingdom of man—our company, business, organization, marriage, family, etc.—some things are possible. We work towards and accomplish many good things. God has entrusted us with much that we are to steward, cultivate, create, and build. And yet we will never accomplish all that is in our heart.

But there is another kingdom, the kingdom of God. Within the kingdom of God all things are possible. In this kingdom God stewards, cultivates, creates, and builds. From Him all blessings flow into the kingdom; from Him the kingdom flows with every blessing.

The kingdom of God is above all other kingdoms. Still it flows to the kingdom of man. In fact, all the kingdoms of the world are becoming “the Kingdom of our Lord” (Revelation 11:15).

This “becoming” is both a “coming” and an “arrival”. In Jesus the kingdom of God has come now (Mark 1:15). The rule and reign of God has broken into the rule and reign of man now. The kingdom of heaven has come to earth now, across every period of time and every boundary of dwelling (Acts 17:26).

As disciples we live within the kingdom of man and within the kingdom of God. We have the privilege and responsibility to be part of both. But when Jesus says that “all things are possible,” he doesn’t mean all things in our kingdom or in the kingdom of man are possible. He means all things belonging to the kingdom of God are possible.

“Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:4)

“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” (Job 42:2)

“Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you…’Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?’ ” (Jeremiah 32:17, 27)

“For nothing will be impossible for God.” (Luke 1:37)

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

Salvation and freedom, joy and hope, healing and peace, forgiveness and restoration—every spiritual blessing in the heavenly kingdom is ours in Jesus. Jesus is possibility. Every desire in the heart of God finds its fulfillment and satisfaction in his life, death, resurrection, and ascension. Jesus made what is impossible for man finally and fully possible: a new life, a new kind of life, the life of God. Every desire in the heart of man can find its fulfillment and satisfaction in and under the authority of Jesus—God’s will done on earth as it is in heaven.

We are not only recipients of what is now possible but participants in it. We don’t need to take hold of our own lives and circumstances to make the kingdom come and flourish. It’s not our effort that makes possible the impossible. The possible awaits, because Jesus is exalted, the Spirit has come, and God has taken hold of our lives and brought us into His kingdom forever.
