When Jesus sits down with the tax collectors, and the shocked pharisees want to know why he dares to do such a thing, he tells them, Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
In the parable of the Good Samaritan there is a hidden question about mercy as well: Will you prove to be a good neighbor?
