Imagine you’re driving to a destination you’ve never visited. You open your GPS, but instead of letting it guide you, you start customizing the route. You mute alerts you don’t like. You reroute around roads that seem inconvenient. You even end up editing the destination itself, because the original one requires passing through difficult areas. You feel in control, you feel comfortable, but now you’re not even going where you originally intended to go!
