We often consider a person’s last words as carrying weight that other words do not.  What would you wish to say if you knew your time on earth was short?  What message would you share?

Most of us hope to leave an inheritance for our children or grandchildren.  But beyond an inheritance, that is, the material things, we each will leave behind a heritage.

Grace is something you can’t earn. By definition, we can’t deserve it. Yet, grace, undeserved favor, demands a response from those who receive it. What does God demand of us as a response?

We are temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19), with Him dwelling in us, we should be praising Him with everything inside of us, individually and corporately and make Him known to the ends of the earth.

Christ has won the victory and delivered us from the “domain of darkness” but we still must fight against that defeated enemy.  How do we prepare ourselves for this battle?

Imagine you’re driving to a destination you’ve never visited. You open your GPS, but instead of letting it guide you, you start customizing the route.

All that we possess really belongs to God.  For some that is a simple statement of truth.  For others it is a radical shift in viewpoint! All our money, all our resources and possessions, even our family truly belong to God.  He has given them to us for a time.

In the heat of the moment we can lose sight of the “why” in favor of what works.  We can become disconnected from the true purpose God has for us – to love him with our whole heart, mind and strength and love our neighbors as ourselves.  

The Legacy that we leave behind is just not the bright lights and fireworks but also the mistakes – there is life in everything – in sourdough starter and even the air that we breathe – it had different value and worth and every life must be surrendered at the feet of Christ.

In the gospel of Mark, the Pharisees tell Jesus that his disciples are breaking the law of the “sabbath”, the day of rest.  In answering them, Jesus teaches that the sabbath was “made for man not man for the sabbath.”  It was a liberation from our toils and a freedom to rest in God’s care.

Christ’s call to follow him is a radical one.  But obedience to Jesus flies in the face of typical human thinking.  It’s a world defying, uncommon leap into more truth that we have been brought up with.

In the prayer Jesus teaches to the disciples in Matthew chapter 6, we see a breathtaking range of God’s knowledge and care detailing the divine will of God being completed on earth and in the heavens down to the daily need for our food.

The prayer Jesus teaches to the disciples has become woven into culture. But despite being so well known, it is not so well understood.

There comes a point when it’s no longer that we can’t believe, but that we won’t. And when that happens, we need the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ to penetrate and tenderize our hearts once again.

 In short, the amazing gift of the Holy Spirit brought 3,000 people from all over the ancient world to saving faith in Jesus Christ and created the church!

Often, when God asks us to change direction He does so without telling us the final destination. Scripture shows us this in many of its stories, but perhaps nowhere more powerfully than in the person of Abraham.

Often we ask God to take our weakness away.  We ask for strength.  Now, there’s nothing wrong with asking for those things.  But sometimes, when those prayers go unanswered, we wonder why.

In the book of James, the brother of Jesus compares our tongue - that is, our speech - with a tiny ember that sparks a forest fire.  Likewise, the tongue, though a small part of the body, can start our relationships on fire.

In the letter to the Ephesian Church, Paul says something quite striking. Paul then instructs them that they ARE light!  Not only that they are "in" light, but that IN Christ, they have become light!
