Most of us hope to leave an inheritance for our children or grandchildren.  But beyond an inheritance, that is, the material things, we each will leave behind a heritage.

In the heat of the moment we can lose sight of the “why” in favor of what works.  We can become disconnected from the true purpose God has for us – to love him with our whole heart, mind and strength and love our neighbors as ourselves.  

The Legacy that we leave behind is just not the bright lights and fireworks but also the mistakes – there is life in everything – in sourdough starter and even the air that we breathe – it had different value and worth and every life must be surrendered at the feet of Christ.

Christ’s call to follow him is a radical one.  But obedience to Jesus flies in the face of typical human thinking.  It’s a world defying, uncommon leap into more truth that we have been brought up with.

You may have heard the aphorism,"Forgive and Forget".  Well, that's not exactly in the Bible.  It doesn't match our human experience either.  Sure, for small offenses, we forget.

As disciples of Jesus, we need to be reminded of the basics on a regular basis.  As Paul says in Romans 12, "do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."  

Relationships change over time.  However, how they change isn't a given.  They don't always improve by default.  Having the "standing" of a son in a family doesn't mean automatically that a son and a father spend time together.
